Today we're launching AI Speedometer — a free tool that gives your website a single 0–100 AI Visibility Score by combining PageSpeed performance data with AI-specific checks like bot access, llms.txt, and HTML content visibility.
Every week, we talk to founders and marketers who want to know the same thing: *"Is my site even set up for AI?"*
They've heard about llms.txt. They've seen competitors mentioned in ChatGPT answers. They've read that AI bots use robots.txt. But there's no quick, free way to check all of it at once — until now.
Today we're launching AI Speedometer — a free tool that gives your website a single 0–100 AI Visibility Score in about 30 seconds, no sign-up required.
AI Speedometer combines two signal groups into one score:
AEO subscore (50%) — three binary checks specific to AI engine citability:
PageSpeed subscore (50%) — five scores from Google PageSpeed Insights:
Each AEO check is binary (100 or 0). The final score is: *composite = 0.5 × avg(AEO checks) + 0.5 × avg(PageSpeed scores)*.
| Score | Grade | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 80–100 | A | Excellent — your site is well-optimized for AI citability |
| 65–79 | B | Good — minor gaps that are easy to fix |
| 50–64 | C | Average — meaningful improvements available |
| 35–49 | D | Poor — significant barriers to AI indexing |
| 0–34 | F | Critical — AI engines likely cannot cite your site |
If crawler access is 0: Check your robots.txt for `Disallow` rules covering GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, or Google-Extended. If you have broad bot-blocking rules, add explicit `Allow` directives for these four bots.
If llms.txt is missing: Create a simple text file at `yourdomain.com/llms.txt`. At minimum, include your site name, a 1–2 sentence description, and links to your most important pages. The full spec is at llmstxt.org.
If HTML visibility is failing: Your page content is likely rendered entirely by JavaScript. This blocks AI bots that don't execute JS. Server-render your key content (product descriptions, FAQs, headings) so it's visible in the raw HTML response.
For the PageSpeed half: A low mobile performance score is the single biggest drag on the composite. Follow Google's Core Web Vitals recommendations — especially LCP and CLS.
AI Speedometer tells you whether your *technical setup* is AI-ready. TrueCite's full platform tells you whether AI engines are actually *recommending your brand* — and what to do when they're not.
TrueCite tracks your MentionShare (the percentage of AI answers that mention your brand) across 9 AI engines, detects competitor gaps, and generates ready-to-publish FAQ blocks and JSON-LD schema. Free trial on Starter and Pro.
